Registration is now open for our 2024-2025 season!
About H.Y.C
The HUB Youth Company combines performance education with quality productions.
Our Elite Youth company welcomes select members from grades 1-12 to be a part of our seasonal theatre company that works to produce competitive and professional youth performers who have the skills and abilities to confidently perform on and off the stage.
Each week our age groups work to build essential performance skills in voice, acting and dance before culminating their learnings in a final professional Musical Production with their fellow company members. Each H.Y.C age group will train at their designated times, producing quality productions with their class to present to the public and local schools.
The company is broken into 2 age groups this year and shows/showcases are chosen to challenge each group appropriately.
Who May Apply?
All ages and abilities are welcome to register for our HUB Youth Company. Keeping in mind,we ask that only serious students apply due to the nature of the program and quick pace of rehearsals. Students who are dedicated to at-home rehearsal, having a positive in-class attitude, and commitment to whatever role they are given will thrive in this environment. For students who do not show positivity, dedication and effort, a 3-strike policy will be implemented, and thus students may be asked to leave the program.
That said, we continue to dedicate ourselves to working with students from where THEY are, and we help them build the skills and confidence they need to perform both on and off stage. That means we are looking for passion, effort and growth - not experience or talent.
Our Junior Stars are automatically accepted into the program without auditioning as long as room remains in the session. They WILL however need to audition to determine their individual role in their Main Stage Show if they feel comfortable doing so. All students will be given a role despite the success of their audition.
Senior stars are asked to audition after registration to ensure they are a dedicated fit for the demands of the season. This audition will also act as their audition for casting in the Main Stage production. Auditions will be held in September. If you're interested in auditioning for HYC : Senior Stars, you must register before-hand.
2024-25 Season
In order to give students the dedication and time it takes to produce the high-quality productions we strive for, we have opted to focus our 2024/2025 season on ONE mainstage show for each age group. This allows for more in-depth conversations and training around characterization, text, music and dance. We look forward to enhancing our final product as well as the experience of our students with this more streamlined approach to training.
JUNIOR STARS (Grades 1-6*)
Lead Instructor - Amy Bridle
Tuesdays : 4:00pm - 5:00pm
(15 week Program beginning September 10th)
SHOW : TBD
COST: $ 650+ tax (Payment Plans Available)
Our Junior Stars will focus on one full-length Main Stage Production over the course of their season. Students will audition on their first day of classes and will be cast in the show before their second class. All students will be given a role that is appropriate to their age, experience, audition and comfortability. We work to challenge students and give them a place to shine in many different aspects of theatre. Watching them grow in whatever role they are given and have a sense of accomplishment when they get to present a high-quality production to their family and peers.
Students will be trained in voice, acting and dance as they rehearse over their 15 week session.
*Grade 6 students have the option to participate in either Junior stars OR senior stars. Please note that content and instruction in our senior stars company is more mature and training is more intensive. Please be aware when making your programming choice.
Senior Stars (Grades 6-12)
Lead Instructor: Emma Grimstead
Tuesdays : 5:30pm - 7:00pm
(24 week Program beginning October 1st with auditions on September 17th)
SHOW : TBD
COST: $ 1200+ tax (Payment Plans Available)
AUDITION REQUIRED: SEPTEMBER 17th 5-7:00pm
Please prepare a short scene (will be provided) as well as 30 seconds of a song that showcases your voice. You will also be required to participate in a dance call.
Admission to the program is NOT based on talent alone, but rather preparedness, enthusiasm and potential. Please do not feel discouraged to audition if you feel you still have performance skills to work on.
Once cast, HYC: Senior Stars, this older and more intensive age group will train for a total of 24 weeks in voice, movement, dance, acting and emotional connection character work. Their work will culminate in a final professional-level production that will be ticketed to schools and the public at the end of the HYC season.
Seniors will be asked to audition before final acceptance is granted to the program. Once registered, students will be sent audition instructions that will include preparing a short monologue and song as well as participating in a dance call.
PLEASE NOTE : We are not looking for “professionals”, this program is looking for prepared, and eager students who are willing to take chances, direction and work together. Acceptance to the program will be awarded based on more than talent.
These students will be challenged to express themselves through their art and dive deeper into the thoughts, decisions and makeup of their characters. The Senior Stars will work together as a company to choose their show for the season and will be cast early in the session to give the most time for deeper connections as well as a higher-quality production.
Senior stars train in a more intensive atmosphere than the younger age groups. Therefore; attendance, at-home rehearsal and positive behaviour is that much more important. Students demonstrating a lack of interest, poor attitudes or lack of commitment MAY be asked to leave the program if communicated warnings do not improve the student’s performance.
This year’s Senior Stars tuition will include automatic access to our workshop events happening throughout the season. ( Please note, these workshops will also be open to the public for anyone ages 13 +). As well as a professional headshot shoot with access to their images. These photos will also be used for show promotion!
*Workshops will take place during typical class time to ensure everyone can participate.
Senior Stars will also be our go-to students for outside opportunities that arise. Including any television audition opportunities, Community events ect.
Workshop 1 : Improv Explorations OR On-camera acting
Workshop 2 : Lights and Sound : technical design workshop OR Dance and Movement Workshop
Auditions
Auditions for Juniors are not required for acceptance into the HUB Youth Company but are required for final acceptance into the Senior Stars.
Junior members WILL be required to audition for their "Main Stage Show" to receive their casting but every student will be given a role that is appropriate to their age and ability.
Seniors, as stated above must audition for the main stage show before their season begins as, unlike the juniors and in rare cases, senior students may not be given a role in this season.
This year, auditions happen in front of our Artistic Director Amy Bridle, Educational Director Emma Grimstead as well as a selection of industry professionals.
Roles will be offered based on dedication, preparedness and role suitability. Past attitudes, behaviours and work ethic will also be considered in the casting process.
We will continue this open feedback and dialogue throughout the year and make note of students who are going above and beyond, despite their roles, to be used in future castings with both future HYC shows and potential invites to HUB community productions/opportunities.
